Dobbins ARB serves as home to multiple Air Force Reserve units, including the 94th Airlift Wing. The base provides a crucial support role in both national and international military operations, often handling logistics, airlift, and mobility missions. It also hosts the Georgia Air National Guard’s 165th Airlift Wing and serves as a regional logistics and maintenance center for various branches of the military.
The base is integral to the Air Force Reserve's ability to mobilize quickly in times of national emergency, as well as providing critical support during disaster response and humanitarian missions. Dobbins Air Reserve Base was established in 1941 as Marietta Army Airfield. It was initially built to support the production of bombers by the Bell Aircraft Corporation, which manufactured the famous B-29 Superfortress at a nearby plant. After World War II, the base became a key training and operational center for various Air Force units. In the 1950s, the base was renamed in honor of Lieutenant Colonel William W. Dobbins.
Its strategic location near Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport makes Dobbins ARB an important logistical node for rapid deployment and support operations.
